Entrance Interviews provide you with an opportunity to meet the Lead Trainers and learn details about all aspects of the Course. It also allows for the Trainers to meet you and learn more about you, your expectations and interest in taking the Course.
Community happens through the yoga and meditation the group experiences together. Relationships and deep bonds of trust can form that fulfill the longing of the soul for spiritual community. Discover an exceptional group of like-minded individuals who share an opportunity to deepen their experience into the teachings of Yogi Bhajan.
For students of all levels whether you are just beginning the journey or are well-traveled this program starts with the basics and allows for all levels to progress. The requirement is the ability to commit to being present.
The consistent structure of the course offers an immersion in the yogic lifestyle, integrates yogic practice into work, family life and personal activities.
Earn the credentials and experience to teach others professionally. The program combines 180 classroom hours with 40 hours of home study and fulfills the requirements for Level One certification by the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) and membership in the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA).
A one-year associate membership in IKYTA is included in the course fee. Graduates meet the requirements for registration by Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level. Spirit Rising Yoga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance, in affiliation with the Kundalini Research Institute’s Aquarian Teacher Academy.
Experiential, interactive coursework provides a solid foundation in the theory and practice of the sacred science of Kundalini Yoga:
- Yogic and Western anatomy
- Yogic philosophy and origins of Kundalini Yoga
- Teaching and practice of Kundalini Yoga postures & kriyas
- Mantra, mudra and sacred sound including the Gong
- Developing and maintaining a daily yogic Sadhana practice
- Humanology, the science of relationships and yogic lifestyle
- Ethics and the roles and responsibilities of a Kundalini Yoga teacher
- Using asanas, meditation, kriyas, mantra and breath to awaken the mind and train the body
Our Unique Mentor Program - Each trainee is matched with a mentor that has graduated from a previous training at Spirit Rising or other KRI certified program. This is a unique component of this training that many trainees have credited with enriching their course experience.
Course materials include the KRI Level 1 Teacher Training Textbook and Manual, which are invaluable reference tools for learning and teaching Kundalini Yoga; and “The Master’s Touch”, an inspiring volume of lectures and meditations by Yogi Bhajan focusing on the process of becoming a teacher of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation. Instructional videos for improving practice of yoga sets. The Trainers also provide valuable personal handouts and other materials to enhance the learning experience.

Certification requirements include an entrance interview, participation in all class sessions, completion of written assignments, attendance of 20 Kundalini Yoga classes outside of Training, a passing grade on the written final exam, one day of White Tantric yoga, completion of a 5 Aquarian Group Sadhanas, creation of two course curricula, agree to and sign the Code of Professional Standards, completion of confidential evaluations on each Teacher Trainer, satisfactory completion of teaching practicum and exit interview.
Guru Kar Singh/Kenny Velez Memorial Scholarship Fund This Scholarship program is designed to further one fundamental mission of Spirit Rising Foundation, making Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan® accessible to all persons, including those who could not otherwise afford to participate in our Teacher Training Course. The financial awards awarded through the Scholarship are considered Seva scholarships; meaning that Scholarship awardees commit to teach a minimum of 25 hours of Kundalini Yoga in an under-served community in exchange for scholarship funds. White Tantric Yoga The White Tantric Yoga course is an essential component of the KRI certification course. Graduates have reported that experiencing White Tantric Yoga helped them grasp their unlimited potential for personal growth. This one-day meditation intensive is both challenging and uplifting.

S.S. Shiva Singh Khalsa, E-RYT 500, Mentoring Lead Trainer
The Midwest’s most experienced Lead Teacher Trainer, one of Yogi Ji’s earliest students and Training Director of Spirit Rising Foundation. Since 1971 he has taught and practiced with the guidance of his teacher Yogi Bhajan, who said of Shiva Singh, "You have always been an inspiration to me." He is a Jupiter teacher; jovial, expansive and uplifting in his teaching style.
Shabad Kaur Khalsa, LCPC, LMFT, E-RYT 500, Lead Trainer
She brings 30 years of yogic lifestyle to impart wisdom regarding the teachings on women and Humanology (applied psychology from a yogic perspective), based on her blessing to have served Yogi Bhajan directly. She also transcribed and illustrated many of his teachings. It has been said of Shabad Kaur, “She is not just a person, she is a force.”

Puranpreet Kaur (Michelle Fiore)
Puranpreet Kaur serves dual roles during this year's Training, as Intern Trainer and the Administrator for the course. She is an accomplished musician and part of the sacred music group 'Preet". Deeply awakened and transformed through the offerings of Kundalini Yoga, she shares an unselfish passion through the teachings, radiating in her teaching style. You will be inspired!!

Dr. Japa Kaur is vibrant and authentic, adept at sharing an experiential understanding of the relationship between Kundalini Yoga and the technology of kriyas. Co-author of the newly published KRI book: Enlightened Bodies: Exploring Physical and Subtle Human Anatomy.
