The Tratakum Gazing Meditation

In Kundalini Yoga, this form of meditation involves Gazing into the eyes of a neutral person, such as Yogi Bhajan. It is a powerful technique to focus pranic energy and increase the ability to concentrate. The pranic energy gives life to the atom, all matter, and the mind. The general technique of gazing is called Tratakum. The photo was taken 100 times until they got it right and this is the only one.

There is also a personal experience of a student on the page.

Seven Wave Sat Nam

Seven Way Sat Nam Mediation is a powerful way to clear out the unwanted habits that linger on after we have made changes. Posture: Sit in easy pose with the spine straight. Place your palms together at the center of your chest with the sides of the thumbs touching your sternum.

Seven Wave Sat Nam Meditation with Sat Dharam Kaur N.D

Focus: With your eyes closed, look up slightly, focusing on the brow point. (the point in between your two eyes)

Breath and Mantra : Inhale deeply through your nose, concentrating on the breath. Exhale as you chant the mantra Sat Nam, vibrating the sound of

Chant 'Sat' in six waves, with a short Nam being the seventh. Sa – a – a – a – a – a – tNam.

On each wave, carry the sound through the chakras, or energy centers, beginning at the

    • base of the spine at the rectum.
    • Continue up to the second center, the genitals;
    • the third center, the navel point;
    • the fourth at the heart;
    • the fifth at the throat;
    • the sixth at the brow point at the forehead;
  • seventh at the top of the head.

  • On Nam, let the energy and sound radiate from the seventh center out the top of your head.
  • Repeat.
  • Continue for 15 minutes to 31 minutes.
  • End: Inhale deeply through your nose, gently suspend the breath as you listen to the sound resonate in the silence. Exhale and relax.

Comments: This meditation works to clear the mind of painful thought patterns. Vibrating the sound of Sat Nam in seven waves will lift your energy, clear your mind and open you to a renewed experience of life.

If you can build this meditation to at least 31 minutes per day, the mind will be cleansed just as the ocean waves wash the sandy beach.

This is a bij (seed) mantra meditation.  Bij mantras such as Sat Naam are sounds which can totally rearrange the habit patterns.  We all have habit patterns—we could not function without them.  But sometimes the patterns we have created are not wanted.  You have changed, so you want the patterns to change.  By vibrating the sound current Sat Naam in this manner, you activate the energy of the mind that erases and establishes habits.

This meditation is good as an introduction to Kundalini Yoga.  It will open the mind to new experience.  A long-time student will still meditate in this way, particularly to clear off the effects of a hurried day before beginning another deep meditation.  After chanting this mantra, you will feel calm, relaxed, and mellow.

Meditation to Release Cold Depression

Between the Piscean and Aquarian Age, humanity is experiencing what is called Cold Depression - where you don't realize that you are depressed - nothing matters - everything lacks meaning. There are several articles below and other kriyas and chants on how to handle this situation. A deep sense of loneliness, a prevailing sense of anxiety and a loss of meaning.

Meditation to Release Cold Depression by Catalyst Yogi

Overcoming Cold Depression

by Shanti Shanti K. Khalsa, Ph.D., based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan

Cold Depression is our single biggest challenge as we enter the Aquarian Age.  It affects vitality of spirit and leads us to behave in ways we would not otherwise.  Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga, cautioned us that as we transition into the Aquarian Age, that is, through 2038, that humanity would suffer from a phenomenon he called Cold Depression.

What is Cold Depression? It is when the external demand is greater than the internal capacity to deliver and we have spent our reserves. We are depressed but we are so numb and insensitive to our own self, we do not feel it.  The depression is therefore, "cold." This leads us to inner anger and isolation from our soul. Cold Depression is when we are cut off from our spirit, source, strength and inner guidance. At its core is a deep sense of loneliness, a prevailing sense of anxiety and a loss of meaning.  Yogi Bhajan called this, "The Silence of the Soul".

We instinctively counter the numbness of Cold Depression with behavior that fulfills the need for stimulation.  A person experiencing Cold Depression does not seem depressed to herself or others. This is because she is busy, active, and appears energized. She may overwork, create "emergencies" or drink 6 energy drinks a day.  He may engage in extreme sports, risk taking or substance abuse.  The insensitivity of Cold Depression leads to reactivity, impatience and drama. Do you know anyone like this?

Cold Depression is not just a personal challenge, it occurs across an entire population during global transition, such as the one we are in now. When there is a major frequency change Cold Depression can increase to profound levels, like a sudden tide.  Yogi Bhajan said this "gray period" of the planet has occurred in the past, whenever there was an epochal transition.

What Causes Cold Depression? Information overload, unrelenting stress and rapid change contribute to Cold Depression. Bigger. Faster. More.  These are all elements of modern life. The glandular and nervous systems of most people on the planet are not sufficiently developed to meet this challenge. When we don't have the energy within, we seek it outside ourselves. We go for the rush.

How Do We As Yogis Manage? We are all affected by the impact of the pressure of these times. We can no longer power through on the strength of our body alone. We need the power of our frequency.

The quick solution? Get your energy from Prana and not from adrenaline. The rhythmic flow of Kundalini Yoga kriya restores the nervous and glandular systems and releases old stress response patterns from the body. Mantra breaks the silence of the soul and builds the pranic and radiant bodies. This gives both calm and vitality.

Even quicker solution?  Breathe and chant! Let the mantra regulate your breath to restore your Prana.  Let the tongue and lips move across the meridian points to balance your brain to deal with stress.

Feeling so pressured you can't do that?  Click Play and have the mantra going as you keep going. Even play it while you sleep. In this age of change, we succeed by letting the sound current work for us.

Simple, Short Yogic Practices Following are simple, short yogic practices that have helped many people overcome the symptoms of Cold Depression. Review the list, consider one thing you would like to do, and start with that. Notice how you feel after a few days of practice. May you be ever blessed with the joy of life.

1) The Seven-Wave Sat Nam Meditation is easy-to-practice to open the chakras to the flow of energy and relieve depression. Seven Wave Sat Nam

2) The Meditation for Release of Cold Depression includes the sound current of joy, Wahe Guru (see Above).

When your energy has increased, and you want to keep it consistent, consider a daily practice of a Kundalini Yoga kriyas. The kriya does not have to be long, but you do need to sweat so that the nervous system and endocrine system are stimulated from inside. Choose any kriya that gets you moving, or practice the Kundalini Yoga for Inner Anger.

Meditation to Become Rich and Prosperous

Meditation to Become Rich and Prosperous, is part of Subag Kriya, a prosperity mediation, that can be done on its own. I like it because it is simple to do and simple to remember. At only 3 or 11 minutes a day, I can do that. Sat Avtar Kaur

Position: Sit in Easy Pose with a light jalandhar bandh (neck lock, just pull your head back a little bit). Elbows are by the sides, forearms angled up and outward. Alternate hiting the sides of the hands together. Begin with the palms facing down.

When the palms hit facing down, the sides of the jupiter (index) fingers touch and the thumbs cross below the hands, with the right thumb under the left.

Yogi Bhajan said that the thumbs crossing this way is the key to the meditation.

The Mercury (pinky) fingers and the Moon Mounds (located on the bottom of the palms) hit when the palms face up.

Eyes: Look at the tip of your nose, through eyes 9/10th closed.

Mantra: Chant the mantra "Har, Har." (pronounced Hud, Hud).

Alternately strike the Moon area and the Jupiter area as you chant Har with the tip of your tongue, pulling the navel with each Har. Your eyes are focused at the tip of your nose. Chant continuously from the navel, using the tip of the tongue.

Time: Continue for 3-11 minutes. Yogi Bhajan has said, "You should not do it more than 3 minutes when you are working during the day, or you will become too rich. I am not joking. Doing it for 11 minutes a day is more than enough. Doing it too much will be greed."

"This meditation stimulates the mind, the moon center and Jupiter. When Jupiter and the moon come together, there is no way in the world you will not create wealth."
