Legacy Teachers H - J

This section starts with the Biographies of Kundalini Yoga Master Teacher S.S. Harbhajan Singh Khalsa and ends with Jot Singh Khalsa.

Master Teachers Location List

(By Country and State)

Legacy Teachers are all of those early students of Yogi Bhajan who sat at his feet, who were personally chiseled by him, and who deliver his teachings today. Until recently, this crusty group of greying middle agers and senior citizens was affectionately referred to as "the old-timers."

Maybe they're not so old. Didn't the Master tell us that age is measured by flexibility of the spine? Many of the so-called old timers have very flexible spines. These early pioneers of our Dharma were sent by Yogi Bhajan to teach Kundalini Yoga all over the world. They opened ashrams, led spiritual communities, and inspired people through their lifestyle and their devotion to Yogiji's teachings. They stood the test of time and the test of the fire of the Master's personal touch.

Jot Singh Khalsa MA

Jot Singh Khalsa (Jot-pronounced Jote) has been actively practicing Kundalini Yoga for 30 years and teaching for almost that long. For 18 years he has taught a Tuesday night Yoga Class through the Milford Community Program, Boston. By day, Jot Singh is a successful designer, artisan, and metal smith.

When Jot Singh was nineteen years old and in college studying fine arts (with a focus on gold and silversmithing), he began to practice Kundalini Yoga and meditation. Through his affiliation with the non-sectarian yoga organization, 3HO Foundation, he met Yogi Bhajan, a spiritual master who was also a member of the Sikh religion.

Yogi Bhajan suggested that he use his artistic gifts to create things that uplift and inspire people.

The fundamental practices of Sikh Dharma appealed to me: daily yoga and meditation, relating to the One God in all; and living a healthy, vegetarian lifestyle. One of the symbols of the Sikh religion is the kirpan, which is worn to remind one to be a protector of the weak and innocent. The symbolic kirpans that friends were obtaining from India were/are still not of great quality.

Encouragement from a couple of Sikh friends led him to acquire the special metalsmithing skills required for knife and swordmaking. Jot Singh sought out established knifemakers and bladesmiths throughout the USA to learn about grinding and forging; the best steels and their heat treatment; as well as information on knife/sword construction and fabrication. He developed the necessary skills and experience to become a member of the Knifemakers' Guild, and has been making knives, swords and kirpans full-time since 1978.

Jot Singh has shared the wonderful science of yoga with many people" through Adult Education classes, at knife shows and yoga-related venues " for over 35 years. He also serves as a Sikh minister.

Over the last 17 years Jot Singh has created knives and swords with themes depicting characters and events from Sikh religious history. Several of these complex projects came through the request and inspiration of the Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan, his teacher for over three decades.

Jot Singh also designs and produces quite a bit of jewelry which can be viewed and purchased at:
