Spirit Rising Yoga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance, in affiliation with the Kundalini Research Institute’s Aquarian Teacher Academy. 
 A one-year associate membership in IKYTA is included in the course fee. Graduates meet the requirements for registration by Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level.

Course Materials
Include the KRI Level 1 Course materials Teacher Training Textbook and Manual, which are invaluable reference tools for learning and teaching Kundalini Yoga; and ''The Master's Touch", an inspiring volume of lectures and meditations by Yogi Bhajan focusing on the process of becoming a teacher of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation. Instructional videos for improving practice of yoga sets. The Trainers also provide valuable personal handouts and other materials to enhance the learning experience. 

Certification Requirements
interview, participation in all class sessions, completion of written assignments, attendance of 20 Kundalini Yoga classes outside of Training, a passing grade on the written final exam, one day of White Tantric yoga, completion of a 5 Aquarian Group Sadhanas, creation of two course curricula, agree to and sign the Code of Professional Standards, completion of confidential evaluations on each Teacher Trainer, satisfactory completion of teaching practicum and exit interview.

The focus of the first journey is to recognize, experience and crystallize the Self. The blocks are encountered in the first four stages: upset, boredom, irritation and frustration. The first ascent starts when we have a sense of our Self, separate from all the commotions, emotions and sensory impulses; we begin to focus and recognize a still point, a nucleus within, which is the Self. It is this crystallized sense of Self that is needed in order for consciousness to work.

Special Morning Sadhana Celebrating Guru Ram Das Birthday

Every Fall we have the blessing of celebrating Guru Ram Das Ji's birthday. Known as the Lord of Miracles, Guru Ram Das embodied humility, service, and deep devotion. Guru Ram Das held a special place in Yogi Bhajan's heart. Yogi Bhajan gave us a special sadhana to do in celebration of Guru Ram Das's birthday. 

September 28 - October 8: For 11 days prior to his birthday we chant the shabad Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur for 11 - 31 minutes. This is the Shabad of Miracles. 

October 9th: This is the day we celebrate Guru Ram Das Ji's birth, when we have a special sadhana of chanting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur for 2 ½ hours in the Amrit Vela.  

4:30 am: Recitation of Japji Sahib and a short yoga set.
5:00 - 7:30 am: Chanting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur for 2.5 hours
7:30 am Breakfast - dish to pass

Our collective light shines always, and our soul's radiance is a perpetual, powerful gift from the universe. Our hearts have opened the doors at Spirit Rising Yoga Center for this special Morning Group Sadhana once again. The light is on, and there is yet another space for your sacred practice. When we practice together, we magnify and multiply the elevation and vibration of peace and consciousness. We practice to still our minds, to better hear the voice of our soul.

Yogi Bhajan has described this occasion as a powerful time for the fulfillment of prayers and a time of great blessing. Allow the divine healing energy of Guru Ram Das to take care of you.  We will share a “wish-and-a-dish” for breakfast after Sadhana. 

In addition, October 6 marks the Day of Remembrance of Yogi Bhajan's passing. This is a special time to reflect on his life and legacy, and give thanks for his teachings.

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness. The power of Kundalini Yoga lies in the actual experience. It goes right to your heart and extends your consciousness so you may have a wider horizon of grace and knowing the truth. We will discuss the basics of Kundalini Yoga including breathwork, meditation, kriyas, mantras, and chanting which will focus on healing the heart center. This workshop includes a yoga practice with live music and is suitable for all levels.

In addition, you will immerse yourself in the healing sounds of the gong tuned to the planet Uranus and healing the Sacral Chakra, balancing emotions. The gong is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. Based on ancient wisdom, the gong vibrates at the same frequency as the body allowing the body to heal itself. The gong balances the central nervous system and aids in deep meditation. Singing crystal and Tibetan bowls will also be added to raise the vibration and heighten the experience.

Jenny Bergold (Jagatjeet Kaur) has been practicing yoga for eighteen years and teaching for eight. Jenny discovered yoga to calm the body and strengthen the mind. Jenny has her 200 Hour Hatha certification from Heaven Meets Earth Yoga in Evanston, IL and her 200 Hour Kundalini certification from Spirit Rising Yoga in Chicago, IL.  Jenny's classes focus on the mind and meditation, healing the body through asana, and uplifting the spirit through inspiration.

Sat Nam Rasayan® is an ancient yogic healing approach that makes it possible to heal through a meditative state where we empty ourselves and allow what is. One modality within Sat Nam Rasayan® is the elements. “In the yogic science they found out that … it is the imbalance of the tattvas, which creates the psychological imbalance.” – Yogi Bhajan 7/30/87

The tattvas are the elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. With life’s pressures, changing situations, and our own thoughts about what is and what should be, there are many factors which can throw us out of balance. Where we are physically, emotionally, and mentally shows up in the balance (or imbalance) of our elements. Not enough earth? It may be difficult to stay grounded. If there’s a lot of fire, you’re easily agitated. When fire is balanced it supports enthusiasm and passion. And to stimulate digestion, fire is vital. The elements can be used to calm the emotions, think clearly, deeply relax, be compassionate, and lots more.

In this workshop, through meditation and healing exercises, we will explore the elements, how we embody them, and how to balance them.

Private Sat Nam Rasayan® sessions are often requested when there is dis-ease: pain, physical issues, emotional turmoil, fear, stress, anxiety, self-criticism, isolation. As blockages to flow that hold these tendencies are dissolved, the self-healing abilities of the body/mind/soul become more effective.  This can shift limitations in relationships and open up the healing ability of the body.

Hargopal Kaur Khalsa has journeyed from Physics to metaphysics, studying space in the infinitesimal realm to the space in which our planet inhabits, and the space of existence and relationships. Hargopal wandered into Kundalini Yoga and found a home in the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. Already grateful to have found her teacher, Sat Nam Rasayan® taught by Guru Dev Singh, came knocking at the door. This ancient healing modality, based on subtlety and deep awareness, allows a dance of consciousness!  Hargopal Kaur maintains a private healing practice as well as offering healing workshops.

I Grow Chicago’s Holiday Gift Giveaway
for Englewood Families

For the last few years  Spirit Rising Foundation has partnered with I Grow Chicago to provide holiday gifts to children in the Englewood neighborhood, to help brighten their holidays.

I Grow Chicago operates a community Peace House in Englewood and they offer community gardening, after-school tutoring, children’s yoga, and summer camps. Our goal is to sponsor 30 children with nice gifts this year. 

Gifts will be distributed by a Santa that is appearing at I Grow on 12/18. We invite you to purchase and wrap a gift for a child aged 2-16, (value $20-30) and mark the age and gender. Gifts may be dropped off at Spirit Rising Yoga by Friday, 12/16, 7 pm. We’ll deliver them to I Grow for distribution.

Giving Day - Be Known By Our Seva

Be Known By Our Seva

Spirit Rising Foundation, as a 501(c)3 organization, organizes Service projects to under-served communities including teaching Kundalini Yoga classes through the Kenny Velez/Guru Kar Singh Memorial Scholarship Fund. Contributions to this fund provides the needed financial support for aspiring Kundalini Yoga teachers to participate in the Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Courses.

Past Seva Projects of Spirit Rising Foundation:

- Mentoring young men at I Grow in Chicago's Englewood Neighborhood
- Teaching Kundalini Yoga and Peace studies to children at I Grow Chicago's Peace House
- Sharing Prenatal Yoga in the Teen Mothers Program at U-Can Chicago
- Serving meals to the needy at Salvation Army and Uptown's Loaves and Fishes
- Providing uplifting entertainment for families with children in hospitals

Yogi Bhajan Memorial Special Morning Sadhana@Spirit Rising Yoga:

We're reopening SRY after our extreme summer makeover and inviting you and yours to be a part of this wonderful experience

It begins with recitation of, Japji then Yoga and then at exactly 5am we join our worldwide community andsimultaneously chant Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru for 11 minutes.

Morning sadhana continues with 2.5 hours chanting Long Ek Ong Kar (Morning Call). If you haven’t experienced this sadhana before, this is a perfect opportunity.

If your schedule requires flexibility, you are welcome to come and go as as you please.

Yogi Tea will be served during and after sadhana and we will share in what always turns out to be a delicious light dish to pass breakfast.
